How do I protect a log home?

I have a log home and the wood is getting weathered. I know there are commercial lacquers but they only last a year or two.

Is there any other option for protecting the wood outside? Is there any sort of semi-permanent protection like a spread on plastic laminate?

Edit: It has laminate now, it’s just worn off. I want a more permanent solution that a new coat of laminate every other year.
