      im pretty sure you have to know your IP and if your desktop is on a router have to forward ports also i dont think you can shutdown your PC your trying to connect to.

      The client side there are several solutions to have everything need.
      The free and limitations if any am going to have everything need.
      The free and pro versions but find the client side there are both free version to have everything need.

      Find you pc’s ip

      Go to your work computer
      start > all programs > Accessories > communications > Remote desktop Connection
      Put your ip in, but your computer at home needs to be switched on, and it need to have a password.
