I know about some friends who have log homes and they dont seem to have much maintaining to do, however try this website ,maybe U can ask them about some info.(kenomee.com)

it depends on your envoirment, here in Kansas city you will need to treat the wood every 10 years or so. If you live in a low humidity you can have it last a lot longer with problem.

The real pain especially on the second floor lived in warm bright and now reside in log house for years and modern home ill never go back.
For years and treating all those exterior surfaces with thompsonslike product can be real problem is not having wall cavity to insulate.
