why wont my windows vista home logging off page log off?

ok so last night i turned off my computer and i pressed the shut down button but it continued logging off. Today i tried using my computer but the logging off screen was still their going and going and i try everything pressing the on off button on my labtop and it keeps saying logging off. So what should i do how long does it take windows vista to sign off?

      The plug in the wall.

      The button did that once it took me times before was able to normal.
