Will sprinkling boric acid as a powder around the base of my log home as an insecticide safe for my cat?

I recently read where boric acid is a very good natural insecticide. However I am concerned with the toxicidity for my cat. I live in a log home - boric acid is also a flame retardant, and kills all sorts of pests: roaches, termites, rodents, spiders, and ants. Thanks for any information concerning the outdoor use of boric acid and PETS.
